Ignatius, Father (Joseph Leycester Lyne)
- Ignatius, Father (Joseph Leycester Lyne)
(1837–1908)
Order Founder.
After serving curacies in Plymouth and London, Lyne determined to revive the Rule of St Benedict in the Anglican Church. As Father Ignatius, he started one community in Claydon and another in Norwich and finally he started building a monastery on a site in Capel-y-ffin in Wales. Despite his ritualism, he was a fervent evangelical preacher and attracted large audiences. He remained in Deacons’ orders until 1898 when he was irregularly ordained by the Old Catholic ‘Bishop’, Mar Timotheos (Joseph René vilatte). After his death, Capel-yffin passed to the community of Anglican Benedictines on Calding Island.
